Creating a new web experience for Godminster Cheese

Background

Godminster is an award-winning, organic dairy farm located in the heart of the Somerset countryside, producing a range of organic cheddar cheese, gift boxes, and crackers. Having recently done a full brand refresh they approached us to design and build a new website as well as improving the overall user experience.

Our Solution

To carry out UX research and benchmarking to discover key user behaviour. On the back of this to plan and design a new website theme based on their new brand. The new design would then be implemented into their existing website before finalising advanced e-commerce tracking.

UX research and wireframing

Recently, Godminster decided to redesign its website to improve its user experience and increase its online sales. The redesign involved a comprehensive UX research process, wireframes, website design, and the development of a new theme on the WordPress platform, which included migrating the existing WooCommerce data.

The UX research process involved analyzing the existing website’s data and conducting user interviews to gain insights into their expectations and requirements. Based on the insights, we created a comprehensive set of wireframes that showed the proposed website structure, layout, and functionality.

Website design

Once the UX wireframes had been signed off by everyone, we created fully branded design comps of all the key pages. The importance here was to bring the new brand to life without affecting existing website functionality.

WordPress Development

Once the designs were signed off we built a new responsive bespoke theme, working closely with our design team to ensure that everything was pixel perfect. One of the key considerations was the product filtering, this was completely rebuilt to allow for better sorting and search of specific products. Special care was taken to retain all existing WooCommerce functionality as well as integrating some new features such as Feefo reviews.

Content Management

We provided a thorough training session with the Godminster team so they could adminster their own content updates. For some of the newer pages we set up the initial template layout using the Gutenberg editor.

We also provided a number of online training sessions so the team at Agricology were confident in using the Gutenberg editor.

Assisting with SEO

We assisted Godminster’s SEO team with setting up all the required redirects for the new website. In addition we also integrated the WooCommerce datalayer with Google Tag Manager to allow for enhanced e-commerce tracking.

We also spent some time on speed optimisation, this included optimising images and logos as well as introducing caching and deffered loading of certain scripts.
